The overwhelming majority of eggs eaten in the United States come from hens who never see sunlight, never flap their wings, and never touch the earth. An average of eight—and sometimes more—hens are kept in “battery cages,” wire cages the size of filing drawers, stacked in tiers and running down aisles the length of one or two football fields.
Every summer, tens of thousands of tourists flock to Washington, D.C.’s National Mall to see the monuments, visit the Smithsonian museums, and get a taste of the historic city. COK makes sure visitors to the nation’s capital take home more than just photos of the White House and a bagful of souvenirs. Every Saturday during the warm months, our Factory Farming in America Exhibit exposes the misery and suffering animals raised and killed for meat, eggs, and dairy must endure in factory farms today.
The Exhibit features enlarged photos of factory farmed animals with descriptive captions, a TV/VCR airing factory farming and slaughterhouse footage, literature on vegetarianism and animal-friendly dining in the D.C. metropolitan area, recipe booklets, and several smiling faces eager to engage onlookers in conversation.
Take a virtual tour of COK’s Factory Farming in America Exhibit on the National Mall and pass around!
